McDonalds Monopoly gives you the chance to win a whole host of prizes from free apple pies to holidays or even a cool £100,000 in cash.
With the Double Peel promotion that was first introduced in 2022, McDonald’s Monopoly became even more exciting, and that version of the game has stuck around.
In 2024, it’s now called Power Peel, but it’s basically the same…
In this guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about how to play McDonalds Monopoly in 2024. At the end, I’ve also got some useful tips that will give you the best chance of winning, too.
How McDonalds Monopoly Works
When McDonalds Monopoly is on, selected food items feature game pieces. You can use these to win prizes in three ways:
- Instant Win – Only one winning piece is needed to win a prize
- Collect to Win – Collect a full colour set of two, three or four pieces to win
- Digital Peel Game – Enter a code from each piece via the McDonalds website or app to enter a prize draw
The prizes you can win!
The top prize in McDonalds Monopoly is £100,000 cash. There are five of these to be won, and you need to collect both the Mayfair and Park Lane pieces to win.
Four of the rare Mayfair game pieces are hidden on food packaging, while there is one hidden inside the app as part of the Double Peel game.
Other prizes include McDonalds food, electric cars, holidays, electronics, shopping vouchers and McDonalds Gold Cards, which would get you one free meal per week for a year. You can also get discount vouchers which will give you money off various things.

It doesn’t last too long…
McDonalds Monopoly lasts for six weeks, but you’ll have a few months after it ends to claim your prizes.
Historically, McDonalds Monopoly in the UK always started in late March. However, in 2020, all McDonalds stores were forced to close to comply with government guidelines. McDonalds Monopoly was postponed and re-introduced on 25th August 2021.
Then since 2022, McDonalds Monopoly always started in early September and ends mid-October. McDonalds Monopoly 2024 started on Wednesday 4th September.
The McDonalds items you can buy to play
You can get McDonalds Monopoly pieces on certain burgers, wraps, fries, salads, sides, ice creams and drinks. Many of the most popular items, like Big Macs and Cheeseburgers, don’t actually contain any Monopoly pieces.
Since 2023, every food item has had two stickers – it used to be that some had three.
You can see a full list of items here: McDonalds Monopoly Qualifying Items.
You don’t need a McDonalds Monopoly board but you get an in-app one instead
Years ago, you would get a cardboard McDonalds Monopoly board and the pieces were stickers that you would attach to it. However, times have changed.
In 2022, everything went digital. There’s an online McDonalds Monopoly gameboard within the MyMcDonald’s app. This lights up the properties you have collected.
You can use your finger to spin the board and see which prizes you’re close to being able to claim.
In the app, you’ll also find your Monopoly Wallet where you can bank your properties and store your prizes.
Because it’s all online, the stickers aren’t actually sticky like they used to be – they’re just pieces of paper!
There’s also a picture of a game board on the McDonalds website. You can use the board to refer to, to see which pieces you need to complete sets, but it’s not necessary since it’s all in the app.
How to win at McDonalds Monopoly
There are three ways to win at McDonalds Monopoly – Instant Win, Collect To Win and the Digital Peel Game. To win the best prizes, you’ll need to collect a full colour set of pieces.
Collect to Win Game
On a Monopoly board, each property belongs to a colour set with one or two more. With stations, you need four for a full set. With McDonald’s Monopoly, the Collect To Win pieces will tell you which other pieces you need to collect to get a full set as well as what prize you can claim if you do so.
McDonalds Monopoly is harder than it initially sounds because within each colour set there is always one property that’s rare, and therefore very hard to get.
You can check out this list of rare McDonalds Monopoly pieces to see exactly which those are. If your piece is on the list, then you have a good chance of finding the others in the set and claiming a prize.
Instant Win Game
Many people think that Instant Win Monopoly pieces are the best because you don’t need to do anything at all. If you win a food prize such as a free McFlurry, you can just walk up to the counter and claim your prize.
With the food prizes, you should know that there are some extra options for what you can claim in the app.
So if you win McNuggets or a Double Cheeseburger but you’re vegetarian, don’t worry – the prize also applies to Veggie Dippers. Likewise, you can get a secret Vegetable Deluxe with the winning Quarter Ponder or McPlant sticker.
Instant Win pieces sometimes have big prizes too. And in 2024, you could win a holiday worth £2,000, a Merlin Annual Pass, £1000 cash, a McDonalds Gold Card and loads of other smaller prizes.
Digital Peel Game
Whenever you get a game sticker in McDonalds Monopoly, you also get a second one in the app – you use the Digital Peel game to claim it.
So instead of being able to claim only the smaller prizes with the online game, you can now find the rare pieces needed to win the top prize of £100,000 cash or a car, within the app.

There are four kinds of digital peel outcomes:
- Property Peel – Collect the property pieces you need to win prizes
- Cash Peel – £5 to £100 instant win
- Community Chest Peel – Win food or smaller prizes instantly
- Prize Draw Peel – Entry into a draw to win more prizes
Tips for winning at McDonalds Monopoly
1. Know which food items have Monopoly Stickers
So many people miss out on Monopoly tokens because they order food that doesn’t have stickers, like Big Macs! Check out the list of qualifying items so you know what to order to get the biggest bang for your buck.
And rather than making your meal large (which won’t help with the tokens at all), may I suggest that you add a McFlurry or Mozarella dippers for the cheapest way to get extra tokens.
2. Save all of your pieces
Most people are only interested in instant wins so they’ll discard any of the other pieces. You’ll never get a full set by doing that. Instead, keep all of your pieces in a safe place, so that one Mayfair pops up, you’ve already got Park Lane ready.
Even after you’ve submitted your claim online, don’t throw away your game pieces. According to the official terms and conditions, McDonalds may request to see the physical pieces to validate the claim.
3. Pick up discarded pieces
It’s against the McDonalds Monopoly rules to buy or trade the Monopoly pieces, but there’s nothing to stop you from collecting pieces that other people have thrown away.
Look around McDonalds restaurants for any stickers that have been left behind. Many people forget to peel them off their drinks. You could even stand by the bin and offer to empty people’s trays of rubbish in exchange for any unwanted stickers.
Profiting from other people’s unwanted rubbish is known as wombling. It’s not illegal, but it may be frowned upon in some McDonalds restaurants, so always be discrete and friendly.
4. Do your digital peels at night
With the Digital Peel game, if you don’t reveal a property, you will be entered into one of the McDonalds Monopoly online prize draws. Here, winners are chosen every 30 seconds.
The non-cash prizes are allocated so that more are up for grabs during the times that people are likely to be online. But the cash prizes are spaced equally throughout each 24-hour period.
So, for the best chance of winning in an online draw, enter your online codes at night.
How to claim your prize
You can claim McDonalds Monopoly food prizes at the restaurant counter, drive-thru window, self-service machine or via the app. You can’t, however, use them when you order via UberEats or JustEat.
Other prizes can be claimed by filling in a claim form on the McDonalds website or app.
If you need more information about how to claim your prize, I have a full guide here: How To Redeem McDonalds Monopoly Prizes.
One more important thing to note – McDonalds Monopoly is for 18+ year olds only. So if you’re under 18, you’ll need an adult to claim your prizes for you.
New for 2024…
There are a couple of new elements to the game that are new for 2024.
The first of these is Mayfair Mondays. If you peel in the app on a Monday during the promotion (except for the last Monday), you could win £20,000 in cash! Nice!
And there’s an extra little reward to get you to keep scanning. If you scan 30 properties during the promotion, you’ll unlock 1,500 McDonalds Rewards Points.
The bottom line
McDonalds Monopoly is such a fun game – everyone loves the excitement of peeling back those stickers to check for prizes. And now you know how to play McDonald’s Monopoly too, so you can definitely join in.
But, if you’ve just been looking for Instant Wins, you’ve definitely not been making the most of the promotion. Be sure to save the collectable pieces too and look out for whether any of them are rare or not. If they are, you’ll want to gather as many game tokens as you can until you win.
And don’t forget about the online game too. There are millions of prizes to be won there including free food and cash. The easiest way to enter is with the McDonalds app.
