Playing Monopoly is fun, of course, but it has its drawbacks. Firstly, the game can take a long time. And secondly, it’s quite a big game so it’s not ideal for travel.

If you like Monopoly but want to try something new, then a Monopoly card game is ideal. But did you know that there are several different Monopoly card games to choose from?

I regularly play both Monopoly Deal and Monopoly Bid – and I do have a clear favorite!

In this guide, we’ll look at each of the Monopoly card games and compare them so that you can decide which is the best for you.

Monopoly cards game options:

  1. Monopoly Deal
  2. Monopoly Bid
  3. Monopoly The Card Game
  4. Monopoly Millionaire Deal

1. Monopoly Deal Card Game

I love Monopoly Deal! It’s definitely the best Monopoly card game and I might even go so far as to say that it’s better than Monopoly. This game was created in 2001 and has been gathering fans ever since.

Monopoly Deal is quite addictive so once you start playing, don’t be surprised if you end up playing game after game.

Other versions of Monopoly Deal

The Monopoly Deal game was given a makeover in 2019. The box was changed from green to blue and got redesigned graphics. However, the cards inside are exactly the same, so it doesn’t matter which one you go for.

It’s also possible to play Monopoly Deal online. As well as the paid-for version for your games console, there are some free but unofficial apps that you can use on your mobile phone, as well as some websites where you can play it on your computer.

2. Monopoly Bid

Launched in 2020, the Monopoly Bid card game is a new alternative to Monopoly Deal. The game is simpler to play, with fewer cards. It’s quick to learn and fun for all the family.

Monopoly Bid

I do like Monopoly Bid, although it’s not as addictive as Monopoly Deal, so I don’t play it as much. However, it’s still a very good game and I love that just like Monopoly Deal, it’s cheap to buy and portable so you can take it anywhere.

Players

Monopoly Bid is a game for two to five players. In reality, playing with just two people can be a little boring, so you’ll want to gather at least three players if you can.

Monopoly Bid is suitable for anyone aged eight and over. As it’s so simple, smart six- or seven-year-olds may be able to play with a little help.

Objective

To win Monopoly Bid you must be the first player to collect three sets of properties. You can read the Monopoly Bid rules here.

Time to play

Monopoly Bid takes 15 to 20 minutes per game. Games with fewer players are usually a little quicker than games with more players.

3. Monopoly The Card Game

If you’ve enjoyed playing the card game Rummy before, you’ll love Monopoly The Card Game. Launched in 2000, this game was re-released in 2017 so it’s still available to buy on Amazon.

Players

Monopoly The Card Game can be played with two to six players. The rules are slightly different depending on how many people are playing, and extra discard piles are used when playing with two or three people. This card Monopoly game works best with four players.

Monopoly The Card Game is recommended for players aged eight and over. However, the rules can be a little tricky to grasp for some kids, so it’s probably best enjoyed by those aged ten and over.

The winner of Monopoly The Card Game is the first player to collect $10,000.

Playing Monopoly The Card Game takes between 10 and 30 minutes. The more people you have, the longer the game will last.

4. Monopoly Millionaire Deal Card Game

Monopoly Millionaire Deal is a cross between a deal Monopoly game and Monopoly Millionaire.

Launched in 2011, this Monopoly card game is quite rare and can be expensive, so if you ever come across a cheap second-hand Monopoly Millionaire Deal on eBay you’ll want to snap it up!

I haven’t played Monopoly Millionaire Deal, but this review says that it’s much better than Monopoly Deal for a two-player game.

Players

Just like the original Monopoly Deal, the Millionaire version of Monopoly Deal can be played with two to five players.

This game is suitable for adults and children aged eight and over.

Objective

The aim of Monopoly Millionaire Deal is to be the first player to collect $1,000,000. This is different from Monopoly Deal where you must try to make three sets. This difference completely changes the focus of the game.

Time to play

The average game of Monopoly Deal Millionaire takes 15 minutes to play. Games tend to last longer with more players, but they can vary depending on which cards are dealt.

Which is the best Monopoly card game?

In my opinion and according to most of the online reviews I have read, the best Monopoly card game is Monopoly Deal. This is the most popular Monopoly card game and it provides hours of fun.

Monopoly Deal and Monopoly Bid are both cheap to buy online, so I’d recommend getting both and deciding for yourself.

I’ve heard that Monopoly Millionaire Deal is excellent, but as it’s been discontinued and is now very rare, I’ve yet to find a game that’s affordable.

I’d recommend reading the Monopoly Deal rules to learn more about the game, especially as the included rule book isn’t super-clear on everything.
